1. Introduction and who we are

Go Outside is a social and real-life meetup app designed to help adults create profiles, match with nearby people, discover activities and events, chat, and meet safely in person. The service is operated by [COMPANY LEGAL NAME], located in [JURISDICTION]. Depending on where you live, [COMPANY LEGAL NAME] may be referred to as the controller, business, operator, or service provider responsible for your personal information.

Important location and safety notice: Go Outside uses profile information and location data to show nearby people and real-world activities. Because the app is built around in-person connection, user safety, fraud prevention, reporting, and moderation are central reasons we process data.

By using Go Outside, you acknowledge that you have read this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this Policy, do not use the app or website.

2. Information we collect

We collect information directly from you, automatically from your device and activity, and from safety, verification, and payment partners where applicable.

Account data

We may collect your name, email address, phone number if used for sign-in or safety verification, date of birth or age, gender, profile photos, account settings, login information, and communications preferences.

Profile data

We collect the information you choose to add to your profile, such as your bio, interests, preferences, photos, profile prompts, activities you create or join, and other details you choose to make visible to other users.

Location data

Go Outside may collect approximate and, with your permission, precise location data to show nearby people, activities, and safety-relevant context. Location may be collected while you are using the app or, if enabled by your device settings, in the background for features that need it. You can turn off location permissions in your device settings, but some nearby matching and activity discovery features may not work as intended.

We may use different levels of location granularity. Precise location may support distance, nearby activity discovery, and safety features. Approximate location may support city-level or area-level recommendations. We avoid showing your exact live location to other users unless a feature clearly explains that behavior and you choose to use it.

Usage data

We collect data about how you use the app, including swipes, matches, likes, passes, message metadata, activity participation, invitations, search or filter choices, app screens viewed, device type, operating system, IP address, app version, language, time zone, identifiers, crash logs, diagnostics, and analytics events.

Content you create

We process messages, photos, group chat content, activity descriptions, comments, profile content, reports you file, and supporting information you send to us. Content may be reviewed when necessary for safety, moderation, legal compliance, or support.

Verification data

If we offer selfie, photo, age, phone, or identity verification, we may collect verification images, comparison results, verification status, fraud signals, and related metadata. Verification data is used to confirm identity or eligibility, reduce fake profiles, protect users, and enforce our rules. We retain verification data only as long as reasonably needed for these purposes, legal requirements, dispute handling, and safety records.

Push notification tokens

If you enable notifications, we collect push notification tokens and notification preferences so we can send match alerts, message alerts, activity reminders, safety updates, and service notices.

Payment data

If Go Outside offers paid features, boosts, subscriptions, super likes, or other purchases, payment transactions are processed by app stores or payment processors. We do not store full card numbers. We may receive purchase history, subscription status, receipt identifiers, product type, currency, price, refund status, and fraud or chargeback signals.

3. How we use data

We use personal information to operate, protect, improve, and personalize Go Outside, including to:

  • create and maintain your account and profile;
  • provide and personalize matching, feeds, recommendations, and nearby activity discovery;
  • show nearby people and activities based on your settings, preferences, and location permissions;
  • enable 1:1 messaging, group chats, invitations, and activity coordination;
  • send push notifications, service messages, safety notices, product updates, and support replies;
  • detect, prevent, and respond to spam, bots, fake profiles, harassment, fraud, abuse, and unsafe behavior;
  • review reports, enforce our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines, and protect user safety;
  • analyze usage, fix bugs, improve app performance, measure feature effectiveness, and develop new features;
  • process purchases, subscriptions, refunds, and payment-related support;
  • comply with legal obligations, respond to lawful requests, and protect our rights and users.

4. Legal bases

Where GDPR, UK GDPR, or similar laws apply, we rely on the following legal bases:

  • Contract: to provide the app, maintain your account, enable matching, messaging, activity participation, support, and paid features.
  • Consent: for optional permissions or choices such as precise location, push notifications, certain verification flows, and some marketing or analytics where required.
  • Legitimate interests: to improve the service, keep the community safe, prevent fraud and abuse, moderate content, understand product performance, and protect our rights, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights.
  • Legal obligation: to comply with laws, lawful requests, tax, accounting, consumer protection, safety, or child protection obligations.

5. How we share data

We do not sell personal data. We may share information in the following ways:

  • With other users: your profile, photos, first name or display name, approximate distance or area, interests, activity participation, and content you choose to share may be visible to other users depending on your settings and app features.
  • With service providers and processors: we use providers for hosting, cloud storage, analytics, crash reporting, push notifications, authentication, moderation tooling, customer support, fraud prevention, payments, and communications. These providers process data on our behalf and under appropriate safeguards.
  • For legal and safety reasons: we may disclose information if we believe it is required by law, necessary to respond to lawful requests, needed to protect users or the public, or appropriate to investigate threats, violence, exploitation, fraud, illegal activity, or serious rule violations.
  • Business transfers: information may be transferred as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy or notice of any material change.

6. Data retention and account deletion

We keep personal information for as long as needed to provide Go Outside, maintain your account, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, improve safety, and protect against fraud or abuse. Retention periods vary by data type and context.

If you delete your account, we will delete or de-identify personal information associated with your account within a reasonable period, unless we need to keep certain information for legal, safety, fraud-prevention, accounting, dispute, or enforcement reasons. For example, we may retain limited records of bans, serious reports, payment receipts, or safety investigations to prevent repeat abuse and protect users.

Messages or content you sent to other users may remain visible to those users unless removed by the app, by you where tools are available, or by our moderation team. Backup copies may persist for a limited period before deletion through routine backup cycles.

7. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your personal information; object to certain processing; withdraw consent; opt out of certain sharing; or appeal a decision. To exercise rights, contact support@gooutside.app.

GDPR and UK users: you may have rights to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection, and withdrawal of consent. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

California and CCPA/CPRA users: you may have rights to know, access, correct, delete, and opt out of sale or sharing of personal information, and to be free from discrimination for exercising privacy rights. As stated above, we do not sell personal data.

You can manage certain choices through device settings, including location permissions, camera permissions, photo access, push notifications, and advertising or analytics settings where applicable.

8. Children

Go Outside is for adults 18+ only. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors or permit underage users to create accounts. If we learn that a user is under 18, we will remove the account and associated data where required. If you believe a minor is using Go Outside, contact us immediately at support@gooutside.app.

9. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information, including encryption in transit, access controls, monitoring, provider security reviews, and internal access limitations. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. International transfers

Go Outside may process and store information in countries other than where you live. Those countries may have privacy laws that differ from your local laws. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers, such as contractual protections or other lawful transfer mechanisms.

11. Cookies and web analytics on this website

This marketing website is intentionally minimal. We may use essential cookies or similar technologies to operate the site, remember preferences such as dark mode, protect against abuse, and understand aggregate website traffic. We do not use this website to sell personal information.

If analytics are added later, they should be configured to collect only what is reasonably needed, respect applicable consent requirements, and be documented in this Policy.

12. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and provide additional notice where required, such as through the app, email, or website notice.
